Composer

What it is

Composer is a little music studio in the browser, in the style of an old tracker or a TR-909 drum machine. Five channels — melody, harmony, bass, kick and hi-hat — run along a grid of 16, 32 or 64 steps. Tap a step to turn it on, scroll or right-click to pick the note, set the tempo and a touch of swing, and press play. Everything is generated with the Web Audio API, so there is nothing to download.

What you can do

• Compose: square-wave melody, triangle harmony and a fat bass over a kick and hi-hat, per-channel volume, 40–240 BPM, swing.
• Keep it: download a song as a .json file and upload it again later, on any device. Signed out, Save and Load use this browser.
• Sign in: your songs are kept on your account, so they follow you between devices. Songs already saved in the browser are offered for copying across the first time.
• Export: copy a song as a music.js track for use in your own project.

Your data

Signed out, songs stay in your browser or in files you download. Signed in, songs are stored against your account on the platform and nobody else can see them.
